Cheap Kayaks For Sale
Cheap kayaks for sale is something that anybody who is looking to purchase their own kayak will search online for. As a salesman I have sold several hundred kayaks over the last 5 years and in that time have amassed huge amount of tips and tricks when dealing with kayaks. I’ve already written below some good starting points when you are deciding whether or not you want to buy your own kayak but I thought I would go a bit further and actually tell you where you can get some good bargains and even have them delivered to your door. Although you might know of these sources already in my experience they are hard to beat and great if you are looking for cheap kayaks for sale.
During my times in sales I got to know where the best deals can be found and that’s basically directly from the wholesaler or distributor. If you’re lucky to know somebody in either one of these departments you can usually get a good deal on a kayak if they have a system that allows a discount. In my retailer where I work we are allowed a 30% discount and even with that type of discount our retailer will still make a hefty profit on a sale so you can imagine how big the mark ups on these products are. Cheap kayaks for sale are definitely a reality.
Cheap Kayaks For Sale But Where?
If you are looking for a used kayak then EBay or your local auction site can be a great place to get that kayak that you are looking for. You just have to make sure you know how old the kayak is and what condition is it in. Obviously you would only look to purchase one of these if the seller is close to you. Shipping a kayak across the country would be expensive and would negate any bargain you may have got on the purchasing price.
Another great online retailer is Amazon, they have a large range of kayaks and because they are a global entity, manufacturers know how much power they have behind them and will let them list their kayaks at really knock down prices which of course means that you can get a bargain.
Not only that, Amazon offers an extensive warranty which means that if you have any problems with the kayak you can send it back or have them take care of repairing it. Another big bonus is that you can have your kayak shipped directly to your door and sometimes you can even get the shipping for free.

Choosing Your Kayak
While I quickly went over some of the various models below I thought some more information would be useful in helping you make a good decision when buying your kayak.
Basically there are 3 structural classifications when talking about kayaks:
The first and most common model is the Rigid or hard shell kayak, these are the ones that you are most likely to see and are constructed of plastic, wood, kevlar, fiberglass and carbon fiber.
The second types are the folding Kayaks.
The third are the inflatable kayaks.
The rigid kayak is the most common model and is usually made of plastic. A plastic kayak will be the least expensive but the trade off is that it will be the heaviest. A positive note about the plastic kayaks is that they are nice and tough but once they do need a repair it can often be quite difficult.
A fiberglass kayak will be more expensive than the plastic ones but it will be a lot lighter than the plastic models. While fiberglass may not be as sturdy as the plastic ones it will be a lot easier to repair.
The last and most expensive ones are the composites, the likes of graphite and carbon fiber along with kevlar. These can be very costly but the strength is outstanding and they are very light boats.
Wooden kayaks are more for the purists. They are heavy but very sturdy boats and the price can vary quite dramatically.
Folding kayaks have the great advantage of easy portability and the added bonus of being very easy to store away. These kayaks are usually made of fabric which is stretched over a frame constructed of either wood or aluminum. These can be quite expensive but their durability is very good and they tend to have a very good resale value.
These kayaks are surprising sturdy, flexible, seaworthy and stable but the downside is they somewhat lack in speed when compared to the others.
Inflatable kayaks are great when space is a premium as they can easily be packed away. These are often the least expensive of the kayaks and are great for those who just want to have a paddle every now and then but haven’t got the space keep a rigid model.
Buying a Kayak
O.k. so you have made the decision to buy a kayak but you’re not too sure what type of kayaking you want to do or what kayak is even good for you! Hopefully with my experience I can share some quality information for you.
So What Kayak Should I Get?
This is the first question that you should ask yourself. Kayaks can be broken down into basically 4 groups. Recreation kayaks are good all around kayaks which are made to be used in easy rivers and in your local bay or pond. These kayaks are usually wider and shorter than the touring models. This makes them easy to navigate and turn around but means they are a little bit harder to go in a straight line.
Your Touring kayak is usually very long and stable but they also have a lot of room so that you can carry an ample amount of gear. These kayaks travel easily in a straight line but are harder to turn than the shorter recreational model. These are more likely than not the ones that you see more often in the sea but they are most certainly not restricted to the ocean. There are slight variations in the models which are more suited to day turning so there is not as much storage room but the maneuverability is improved.
Down river kayaks are made to get your kayak through the water as quickly as possible; you are more likely to see these kayaks used in racing. They are very sleek and long but this makes balancing hard and generally these kayaks are not suitable for the beginner as they are quite hard to turn.
Whitewater kayaks are the”fun” ones, you know the ones you often see people racing down raging rivers in. These kayaks are often around 8-9 feet with rounded hulls, these are used in the Olympics today. The shape of the hull makes these kayaks ideal for turning sharply and surfing. With the shape of the hull the stability in slow moving water isn’t very good but once the water speed starts to pick up they become far more stable. There are actually quite a few more variations with regards to whitewater kayaks and means that size and width of the boat varies quite dramatically and you are usually trading off either stability with maneuverability or length with balance.
